TEWSEN Tenugui Short Scarf – “AMANOGAWA (Milky Way)”
Made with Kakishibu-dyed cotton yarn from Wakayama, Japan
Inspired by the shimmering beauty of the night sky, “Amanogawa” — meaning Milky Way — features delicate kasuri(ikat) patterns reminiscent of scattered stars and distant galaxies.
Refreshing lemon yellow and khaki-gray accents bring a modern twist, while the soft orange-beige of kakishibu-dyed yarn gently brightens the face.
Depending on how you wrap it, you can highlight different colors to create your own unique look.
This “wearable tenugui” embodies the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship through the traditional chusen dyeing technique, combining artisanal skill and contemporary design.
Created in collaboration with LOCAL FABRIC, using an original textile they developed exclusively for this collection.
Subtle fringes add a refined touch, while its excellent absorbency makes it ideal for everyday use — both beautiful and practical.
The fabric is woven thinly on a vintage shuttle loom with softly textured yarn, offering a light, airy feel that resists stickiness or humidity.
The cotton yarn is dyed with kakishibu (persimmon tannin) made from locally grown Wakayama persimmons, which naturally provides antibacterial and deodorizing properties, helping prevent unwanted odors.
Each piece has a unique pattern — enjoy the individuality of every item.
