TEWSEN Tenugui Scarf – “SANKEI (Mountain Scenery)”
Made with Kakishibu-dyed cotton yarn from Wakayama, Japan
If you see the gray area as mountains, it evokes the silhouette of peaks at dusk.
If you see the red area as mountains, it reflects the ridges glowing in the setting sun.
Through the expressive chusen dyeing process, this design captures the dynamic, zigzag outline of a mountain landscape — serene yet powerful.
This “wearable tenugui” is created using the traditional chusen stencil dyeing technique, blending timeless craftsmanship with contemporary design.
Developed in collaboration with LOCAL FABRIC, using an original textile they designed exclusively for this collection.
Delicate fringes add a subtle accent, while the excellent absorbency and softness make it a piece you’ll reach for every day.
The fabric is lightly woven on a vintage shuttle loom using textured yarn, resulting in a lightweight, breathable material that resists stickiness and moisture.
The cotton yarn is dyed with kakishibu (persimmon tannin) made from locally grown Wakayama persimmons, offering natural antibacterial and deodorizing properties to keep you fresh and comfortable.
Each piece is unique, with its own expression of the landscape — no two are exactly alike.
