“Inch Boy” – A Folktale in a Pincushion
This charming sewing set is inspired by the beloved Japanese folktale Issunboshi—a tiny boy who sets off on a journey with a bowl as his boat, a chopstick as his oar, and a needle as his sword.
The set includes five handmade pins, each representing characters and items from the story: the brave Inch Boy, the demon, his needle-sword, a metal club, and a magical mallet. The pincushion features traditional Noto Futakoshi chirimen fabric with a seigaiha wave pattern, set in a Yamanaka-style urushi lacquered bowl made from resin and wood powder.
Produced by a Japanese garment sewing company with over 80 years of experience, this piece is a beautiful fusion of storytelling, craftsmanship, and functionality. A delightful gift for sewing enthusiasts or lovers of Japanese culture.
Set includes:
1 x urushi lacquered bowl (Yamanaka style resin bowl)
1 x pincushion covered with Noto Futakoshi chirimen (wave pattern)
5 x handmade resin pins (each coated with a glossy finish)
Comes in a washi paper covered box ready for gift giving.
